01
Eye exams
Plan for about [CLIENT INFORMATION REQUIRED: typical exam length]. If you're also choosing new eyewear or having a contact lens fitting, allow extra time.
It depends on your age, your eye health and your prescription, so follow the schedule your eye care professional recommends. Book sooner if you notice any change in your vision.
In Ontario, OHIP covers routine eye exams for some age groups and certain medical conditions, and many workplace plans include vision care. Coverage rules change, so ask us when you book and bring your plan details. See insurance and billing.
Your current glasses and/or contact lenses, a list of any medications, your health card and your insurance details.
If your exam includes eye drops that dilate your pupils, your vision may be blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours. Bring sunglasses and consider arranging a ride. We'll let you know when you book whether dilation is likely.
02
Eyeglasses
Start with comfort and fit, then shape. A frame that contrasts gently with your face shape is a good starting point, but the best test is trying them on. We're happy to give honest opinions.
[CLIENT INFORMATION REQUIRED: typical turnaround.] Complex prescriptions and specialty lenses can take longer.
Often, yes, if the frames are in good condition. Bring them in and we'll check.
We adjust glasses so they sit comfortably. [CLIENT INFORMATION REQUIRED: confirm repair services and any charges.]
03
Sunglasses
No. Look for 100% UV protection or UV400. How dark a lens looks tells you nothing about its UV protection.
Yes. Many frames can be made with prescription tinted, polarized or mirrored lenses. See prescription sunglasses.
Tint reduces overall brightness. Polarization also cuts reflected glare from surfaces like water and roads.
04
Contact lenses
Most people can, including many people with astigmatism or who need reading help. A contact lens consultation is the only way to know which lenses suit your eyes.
Yes. A contact lens prescription includes measurements, such as lens curvature and diameter, that a glasses prescription doesn't. That's why a fitting is needed.
Only if your eye care professional has fitted you with lenses approved for overnight wear and told you it's safe. Sleeping in regular lenses raises the risk of eye infection.
It's best to avoid it. Water can carry microorganisms that cause serious eye infections. Wear goggles over your lenses, or use daily disposables and throw them away afterwards.
05
Lenses
It depends on your prescription and how you use your eyes. Try the lens finder, then we'll confirm after your eye exam.
Most people adapt within a few days to a couple of weeks. Accurate measurements and a good fit make a big difference.
Evidence is mixed. Some people find them more comfortable, but regular breaks, good lighting and an up-to-date prescription matter most.
06
Insurance
[CLIENT INFORMATION REQUIRED: confirm whether direct billing is offered and with which insurers.] Coverage always depends on your individual plan.
You pay at the time of purchase and we give you an itemized receipt to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
Many plans cover prescription eyewear, including prescription sunglasses and contact lenses, but rules vary. Check with your insurer, or bring your plan details and we'll help.
